Elephants on Acid

This project finds producer DJ Muggs returning to the production helm, the first full length he has worked on with the group for over a decade.

The rap odyssey contains twenty-one tracks, moving from expansive pieces to short interludes, beat workouts and more. B-Real, the lead vocalist says, “The album is both a trip back to the roots and an escape into a completely new world.”

“Anything can happen when Muggs, B-Real, and myself get together to record,” says Sen Dog. “We were kids when we first got together. We’ve grown up as men now, but the chemistry is still the same. When we first came out in the nineties, we sounded like nobody else. We sounded like ourselves. This is another continuation.”

The new song “Band of Gypsies” is online now, an arresting return rooted in that searing guitar line and some taut rhymes from Cypress Hill.

Bandana

Bandana, the long-awaited follow-up to Freddie Gibbs and Madlib’s collaborative record Piñata, is done shaping up to be Gibb’s apex. The album is a grimy rap-fest, with Gibbs demonstrating all sides of his lyrical ability and oft-intimidating delivery. In an era where artists and labels are rushing out releases ready or otherwise (think Wyoming sessions), it’s refreshing to hear Gibbs focused on timing and pivoting to other projects if his creative itch needs to be scratched.

ERYS

Jaden Smith has become much more than just Will Smith’s son. He’s managed to make a name for himself in the music world, and has worked on helping solve environmental issues, including sending water to Flint, Michigan. Jaden has already confirmed plans to drop a SYRE follow-up in 2018, titled ERYS. While little is known at this point, he has teased a more rap-centered focus this time around. Stay tuned for more news as it develops.

Travel Light

Tyler Daley and Konny Kon are Children of Zeus, a production duo from Manchester, United Kingdom, that is part of a wave of artists blending jazz with hip-hop and electronica. Having previously released three singles and a compilation EP over the past decade, they will finally release their debut full-length album, Travel Light, via First Word Records. This project shines another light on Manchester’s fascinating new school and is written, produced and performed entirely by Daley and Kon.
