Dr. Thomas E. Lockhart III

Shares The Art Of Timeless Luxury

In the rarefied world of luxury art—where discernment is measured not only by value but by vision—Dr. Thomas E. Lockhart III stands as a master of spiritual depth and tactile elegance. His mixed-media works, rich in narrative, layered in texture, and boldly expressive, speak to collectors who understand that true luxury extends beyond aesthetics into meaning, memory, and legacy.

Shaped by faith, discipline, and an unyielding commitment to cultural preservation, Lockhart’s artistic practice has emerged as a defining voice in contemporary fine art. Coveted by seasoned collectors and institutions alike, his pieces reflect a luxurious convergence of creativity, craftsmanship, and conviction.

Taroue Brooks: What does luxury mean to you within the world of fine art, and how do you see your work embodying or redefining that concept for collectors?
Dr. Thomas E. Lockhart III: Luxury, to me, is less about price and more about presence—how something makes you feel, how it elevates your environment, and how it enriches your spirit. True luxury is emotional resonance.
In my work, I want collectors to experience passion, texture, and narrative depth. When someone acquires one of my pieces, they are not simply purchasing artwork; they are investing in a timeless story—a bold gesture of color and texture that can transform a home or business into a sanctuary of meaning. My vision of luxury is rooted in intentionality and the creation of works that feel both personal and enduring.

Taroue Brooks: Your pieces already live in the homes of discerning collectors. When a serious collector acquires one of your works, what do you hope they understand about the spiritual and creative depth behind it?
Dr. Thomas E. Lockhart III: Every piece I create begins in prayer and purpose. I spend time with the image, meditating on how it should be designed to captivate the viewer on multiple levels.
When collectors bring my work into their homes, I want them to feel they’ve acquired more than a visual statement—they’ve received something sacred, something heirloom-worthy. Behind every layer of color and texture is my request to God for guidance, inspiration, and blessing for the person who will one day steward that piece. I want collectors to feel the intention and spiritual grounding embedded in every stroke.

Taroue Brooks: Art has increasingly become a vehicle for legacy building. How do you view your art as part of generational wealth, and what role do collectors play in preserving cultural history through acquisition?
Dr. Thomas E. Lockhart III: Collectors are beginning to understand that art is an essential component of wealth-building—not only financially, but culturally. Over my 25 years of painting, I’ve met collectors from around the world who view art as legacy, capable of appreciating in value while also serving as a cultural compass for future generations.
Many who collect my work envision it being displayed in museums one day, contributing to the preservation of our collective story. They recognize that fine art enriches their space, strengthens their portfolio, and ensures that cultural narratives—especially those from the African diaspora—are safeguarded for the future.

Taroue Brooks: The global art market is shifting, with African American art receiving unprecedented attention. How do you perceive this moment, and how does it influence the way you create or think about your place in the canon of luxury art?
Dr. Thomas E. Lockhart III: This is a remarkable moment for African and African American artists. Our stories, aesthetics, and innovations are finally being acknowledged on a global scale. I study both the masters of the past and the groundbreaking artists of today, and I see how our work has evolved into a powerful cultural force.
The world is now embracing the full breadth of our imagination, creativity, and storytelling. This inspires me to create with even greater intention and excellence, knowing that our work is reshaping the luxury art landscape and expanding the canon in profound ways.

Taroue Brooks: When collectors invest in your work, they’re not simply purchasing a painting—they’re entering into your vision. What do you believe distinguishes your creative voice in a crowded market, and how does that distinction translate into long-term value?
Dr. Thomas E. Lockhart III: My distinction lies in vision—specifically, the vision only I can bring forth. Each piece is a window into the world as I see it: its color, rhythm, and emotional architecture. I lead viewers through storytelling, layered meaning, and bold design choices that create both immediate impact and lasting relevance.
I often weave historical and cultural subtext into my compositions, giving collectors a deeper connection to the past and a bridge to the future. This level of intentionality and narrative depth is what creates long-term value, ensuring the work resonates across generations.

Taroue Brooks: Many luxury collectors are drawn to artists whose work is both visually striking and intellectually rooted. How do you balance aesthetic beauty with the deeper spiritual narratives that guide your mixed-media practice?
Dr. Thomas E. Lockhart III: My creative process always begins with contemplation. I spend time studying the image, imagining what it could become beyond what is immediately visible. Through sketching, selecting textiles, and combining materials such as cloth and gold, I shape both the aesthetic and spiritual dimensions of the work.
I want viewers to see themselves reflected spiritually—drawn in by color, composition, and emotional resonance. The balance emerges organically as I allow the image to reveal its deeper purpose while ensuring the visual execution remains captivating and luxurious.

Taroue Brooks: For collectors who see art as both an emotional experience and a financial asset, what makes a piece “investment-worthy,” and how should they think about the long-term trajectory of your body of work?
Dr. Thomas E. Lockhart III: Investment-worthy art is created with intention, consistency, and a clear artistic voice—qualities I strive to embody in every piece. My work continues to gain recognition among influential collectors and industry leaders, which strengthens its long-term value.
As I evolve creatively, I believe my art will continue to rise in impact, reach, and worth. Most importantly, my work resonates with those who seek emotional connection, spiritual depth, and visual sophistication. That combination ensures longevity and appreciation over time.

Taroue Brooks: Art fairs, exhibitions, and exclusive showings are spaces where luxury and culture intersect. How do you envision presenting your work in these environments so the experience matches the sophistication of your artistry?
Dr. Thomas E. Lockhart III: Presentation is paramount. High-end environments demand intentional curation—lighting, spacing, scale, and flow all shape how the work is experienced. I study how top-tier artists present their work, learning from the standards of prestigious fairs and exhibitions.
I’ve been fortunate to show in many of these environments and to receive awards for my presentations. My goal is always to honor the work by presenting it with the same dignity, precision, and excellence with which it was created. A luxury setting should amplify the work’s emotional and aesthetic power.

Taroue Brooks: As someone who views art as a spiritual calling, how do you maintain authenticity in a luxury market that can sometimes prioritize aesthetics over meaning?
Dr. Thomas E. Lockhart III: Authenticity is non-negotiable for me. While aesthetics draw people in, meaning is what keeps them connected. I aim to introduce collectors to storytelling-based artwork—pieces that speak to lineage, memory, and identity.
Luxury does not diminish spirituality; it can enhance it. My prayer is that viewers experience a connection that transcends the visual. When that happens, the collector becomes more than a buyer—they become a steward of something meaningful.

Taroue Brooks: For new collectors entering the world of fine art, what guidance would you offer on buying with intention, understanding value, and identifying pieces with both cultural resonance and financial appreciation?
Dr. Thomas E. Lockhart III: I encourage new collectors to begin with research and intuition. Buy what moves you, but take time to understand the artist’s background, consistency, palette, and philosophy. Many collectors begin with prints, learning an artist’s voice before committing to originals.
Over time, this journey builds connoisseurship and allows for investment-driven decisions. Art becomes more than décor—it becomes a reflection of identity, intention, and cultural stewardship.

XAVIER DANIELS

BIO

Paintings are influenced by his experiences with brotherhood at both Morehouse and as a firefighter. In creating his art, he is actively thinking about the perception of black men and attempting to be a catalyst for a different view on the black male experience. According to Daniels, the conversations happening in popular culture about black males leave them invisible in discussions about themselves. The portraits of black men Daniels creates are large in an effort to symbolically assert black male presence into those conversations. His work has been shown around the world through Almine Rech and Richard Beavers Gallery. Xavier lives and works in Atlanta, Georgia.
