Escape Into A Dream And Visit The Newt In Somerset

The Extraordinary Estate That Seamlessly Blends History, Luxury And English Countryside.

The Newt in Somerset, England, is an extraordinary estate that seamlessly blends history, luxury, and the natural beauty of the English countryside. Nestled in the rolling hills of Somerset, this captivating destination is both a modern haven for relaxation and a celebration of timeless rural charm. Spread across sprawling grounds, the estate includes meticulously restored Georgian architecture, lush gardens, an award-winning hotel, farm-to-table dining, and immersive experiences that connect visitors to the land, its heritage, and its future.

At the heart of the Newt is the magnificent Hadspen House, a Georgian manor that dates back to the late 17th century. Once home to generations of aristocratic families, the house has been lovingly restored and thoughtfully reimagined to honor its historic past while incorporating contemporary design and comfort. From the moment guests step into its elegant interiors, they are welcomed into a world of refined luxury. Traditional architectural features, such as sweeping staircases, grand fireplaces, and intricate plasterwork, coexist harmoniously with modern furnishings, bespoke artworks, and carefully curated spaces. This blend of old and new creates a uniquely sophisticated atmosphere that feels both opulent and inviting.

Surrounding Hadspen House is an intricate tapestry of gardens and grounds that make the Newt a horticultural paradise. The estate’s gardens are a work of art, designed to showcase the seasonal rhythms of nature and the rich biodiversity of the region. Visitors can explore a series of interconnected garden spaces, each with its own unique character, from the immaculately manicured parterre gardens to the whimsical wildflower meadows. The iconic walled garden is a particular highlight, offering a glimpse into the estate’s agricultural heritage. It is divided into symmetrical sections where rows of vegetables, herbs, and fruits grow in abundance, supplying the estate’s kitchens with fresh, seasonal produce. Guests are encouraged to wander freely through the orchards, woodland walks, and apple tree-lined avenues, where the scents, textures, and colors of the natural world create a deeply immersive and tranquil experience.

The Newt’s strong connection to the land is further exemplified through its commitment to sustainability and farm-to-table ethos. The estate’s restaurants are renowned for their innovative yet authentic approach to dining, with menus inspired by the rhythms of the seasons and the bounty of the gardens. The chefs work closely with the estate’s gardeners and farmers to craft dishes that showcase the freshest ingredients, many of which are harvested just hours before they reach the table. Guests can savor hearty breakfasts, indulgent afternoon teas, and exquisite dinners that celebrate the finest local produce, from just-picked vegetables to sustainably reared meats and cheeses.

For those seeking relaxation and rejuvenation, the Newt offers world-class accommodations and wellness experiences. The hotel, located within Hadspen House and the surrounding buildings, combines heritage charm with modern luxury. Individually designed rooms feature bespoke furnishings, sumptuous linens, and sweeping views of the gardens or countryside. Each space is a sanctuary of comfort and style, inviting guests to unwind and immerse themselves in the estate’s serene ambiance. The onsite spa further enhances the experience, offering a range of treatments inspired by the healing properties of the natural world, including botanical-infused therapies, massages, and facials. Guests can also make use of the pool, steam rooms, and relaxation areas, all designed to promote holistic well-being.

Beyond its gardens, dining, and accommodations, the Newt offers an array of experiences that celebrate the culture and history of Somerset. The estate is home to a cider-making tradition that dates back centuries, and visitors can learn about the art of cider production through guided tours and tastings. The estate’s state-of-the-art cider press produces a range of award-winning ciders made from apples harvested in the onsite orchards, which boast over 3,000 trees and dozens of heritage apple varieties. Guests can watch the pressing process in action, sample the estate’s signature ciders, and even explore the surrounding orchards to gain a deeper appreciation for this quintessentially Somerset craft.

In addition to its focus on cider, the Newt offers activities such as garden tours, beekeeping workshops, and interactive exhibitions that delve into the estate’s history and biodiversity. “The Story of Gardening,” a groundbreaking multimedia experience, takes visitors on a journey through the history of gardens while featuring immersive technology and breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. Whether it is exploring the estate’s fascinating past, participating in hands-on workshops, or simply relaxing in nature, guests are invited to engage with the Newt in ways that are both meaningful and enriching.

The Newt in Somerset is more than just an estate. It is an experience that captures the very essence of English heritage, natural beauty, and modern luxury. Whether visiting for a day or staying for an extended retreat, guests will find themselves transported to a place where history comes alive, landscapes inspire wonder, and every detail is designed to delight the senses. With its unparalleled commitment to craftsmanship, sustainability, and the art of hospitality, the Newt stands as a testament to the enduring magic of the English countryside.

XAVIER DANIELS

BIO

Paintings are influenced by his experiences with brotherhood at both Morehouse and as a firefighter. In creating his art, he is actively thinking about the perception of black men and attempting to be a catalyst for a different view on the black male experience. According to Daniels, the conversations happening in popular culture about black males leave them invisible in discussions about themselves. The portraits of black men Daniels creates are large in an effort to symbolically assert black male presence into those conversations. His work has been shown around the world through Almine Rech and Richard Beavers Gallery. Xavier lives and works in Atlanta, Georgia.
